Most ingrown toenails can be treated simply and relatively painlessly if they are captured early. Usually the treatment involves carefully cutting the nail spicule from the wound using a very fine tipped blade.
Local anaesthetic can be used to numb the toe if it is very tender or if we are performing a Nail Wedge resection. This procedure involves using the local anaesthetic to numb the toe so that the wedge can be removed from the nail matrix (where the nail grows) and then phenol applied kill the nail cells.
