13 Aug The Importance of Active Rest during Lower Limb Injury Recovery
As a health practitioner it is difficult conveying the importance of active rest from the aggravating activity in returning an athlete to there chosen sports quicker. Especially when dealing with foot pathologies the constant pounding the injured area takes can prolong the time it takes for an overuse injury to heal even when the soft tissue components are being addressed. It is however important to keep active or fit by doing another activity that is no going to aggravate the area. Good alternatives to running and walking are swimming or cycling which are great activities to maintain fitness without that constant pounding. This active rest period is also a good chance to work on some other core strength weaknesses with your Physiotherapist which will aid in reducing future overuse injuries.
